Light of the World
Although we cannot change times that are past, we can live the past in our memories, things and feelings that were. Writers talk about hard times but are they counting in money?
When we look at the calendar, as children counting the days to the magical time and all that it entails, friends and relations seem to become closer. I think the world becomes brighter, the shops and stalls bright with fruits of far countries, decorated with tinsel and bright coloured paper, and assistants ready and willing to help you sort out your precious pennies, or sometimes halfpennies and farthings. The churches would have a nativity scene which we never tired to tell the story of Christmas, and when you sang carols - why! everybody knew the words, even if they could not read. Also the password everywhere was “MERRY CHRISTMAS!” from all sides – the policeman, the postman – all the people you met or just passed by.
But with age also comes the thought of so many people with so many troubles. That is the variety of this world and we can only find that perfect stage when we daydream. It would be really wonderful to feel the love and affection you felt as children, counting the pennies you have saved to buy gifts for loved ones and seeing their faces light with joy just thinking that someone really thought about you enough to buy or make you something.
Can we try to make this time special again by giving a bit more love and prayer so that we find the LIGHT OF THE WORLD.
And what a Wonderful Gift to give our children and all future generations – THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF GOD.
